Doc's Diatribe: Hair

Mrs. Owner cut my hair. I am sad. However, there are worse things - she could have pulled it, ouch!
I don't care what anyone else thinks or says, this song from the musical Hair had to have been written by, for and about Haffies. It 'speaks' for me when I can not!

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hell that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of bread
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
I want hair
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair

  1. My friends Halflingers have the longest manes, especially his old mare. Her mane is almost to her knees and oh so thick. I love a long full mane, especially to roll or dutch braid.

  2. Wow, that is quite a difference! I'll bet he's feeling quite a bit lighter... :D

I'm slowly getting Gabe's done. It's a slow process because he has an ultra thick mane, so I do have to pull some of it. Most of it I trim, but some, I pull, just to thin it. Little by little it gets done. I only do it until he starts getting wiggly and OVER IT.

  3. Sydney, I tried to let the manes grow, but keep getting my fingers caught in them. Also, I can't see their shoulders and can't tell what diagonal I'm posting on!
I also tried pulling the manes, to keep them a bit thinner. Poor Doc has such a thick mane that I finally gave up, parted it down the middle, and let it fall on both sides! I doubt I could ever thin his enough.
Braids might be an answer...maybe next time!

  4. That long, thick hair is a lot of work. Have your tried a Solo Comb Mane Thinner? Might ease the upkeep. Doc...you are still a handsome hippy dude, even with short hair.

  5. Dang, Once Upon, I was looking for something just like the Solo comb...but didn't find anything like it at the Cowboy Walmart! I ended up holding the mane up and taking little snips here and there. I pulled some of it, and finally found my thinning shears. Both boys now have 'choir boys bangs'...they look kinda preppy!
