Hell's Canyon

We took a jet boat ride on "Hell Bound" along the Snake River through part of Hell's Canyon. We started our ride on the water between Lewiston, ID and Clarkston, OR. Guess who the towns are named after!

The water was high, so there wasn't quite as much rough water.
However, we still hit a few rough patches.

There were some great geologic formations and local animals.
This is an osprey nest.

During the gold rush days a stamp mill was built on the "steps" going down this hill

The river is a playground for all kinds water craft.

We reached Garden Creek, a small ranch about 35 miles upriver.
We were treated to lunch along the river - it was a perfect day.

The ranch's barn burned down a month ago. It was a total loss, not surprising since the road going in is almost impassable, and all supplies are brought in by boat and garbage is taken out by boat

How interesting to see such large, almost perfectly formed blocks

This was a sheep farm that had hundreds of sheep.
On a nice warm day there is quite a breeze from the river.
I don't think I'd want to experience that breeze in the winter!

We had a presentation about medicine that was used as Lewis & Clark proceeded to the west.
It was amazing that only 1 person died (Floyd) and very little illness or injury was experienced.

Before the trip left the east Lewis talked with doctors, He received good advice and information, He carried a few books about health and medicine

The general course of medical treatment began with purging, followed by bleeding and if that didn't help the patient recover, then clystering was used.

We stayed at the Hells Canyon RV Resort. This was a nice, small campground with gravel sites, grass and some trees. The restrooms and the pool room bad wonderful historical tiles on the walls

Thec campgournd also had a timeline of Lewis & Clark's journey etched into the sidewalk

  1. This looks to have been a delightful stop over ... albeit back in the day of Lewis and Clark it'd have been somewhat different. Really interesting ... take care - cheers Hilary

What thoughts do you have?

What is Four?

Have you ever thought of the meaning of "four"?  Four is the number of: seasons in a year. corners and sides to a square. virtues....
