Sew, What Have You Been Doing Recently?

Sew... I worked a deal with my son and ended up with a new-to-me Bernina sewing machine that does just about everything, all by itself. My rekindled interest in sewing began just before Christmas when I quilted a jacket for my DIL's mother. I enjoyed the challenge. I enjoyed playing with beautiful fabrics, and finding just the right patterns and colors.

Sew... not knowing much about quilting (although my mother was a fabulous quilter, and I inherited her stash),  I took a class at a nearby quilting/fabric shop.

Sew... we made a runner. I learned a lot. Mostly I learned:

Sew in haste...
Rip out at leisure!

As the clock ticked closer to the end of the class, I began sewing faster. When I completed my runner, and held it up, it closely resembled the letter "C". It was a cockeyed mess.

Sew... I pulled out the seams, 'squared' the blocks, and more carefully pieced them together, being sure to keep my 1/4" seam allowance. My second attempt looked much better than the first! I was proud to give this to my Mother-in-Law when I saw her in May.

Sew... one day I was at a fabric shop and my eye was caught by a bolt of cloth with a lovely pattern of warm colors. My colors.

Sew... I found a quilt pattern (an "easy" quilt pattern) and went shopping for fabrics that complemented that which caught my eye, and made a table cloth.

Sew... after going through numerous spools of thread, and lots of time sewing in "the dungeon",  on the new super machine... I completed  another project. What fun!

Sew... I wonder what I should make next?!!

  1. Sew! That is one adorable table top, I've been working on one too, although not as cool as this! Very nice.

    1. I am having so (sew) much fun with the sewing. I have almost completed a 52" X 66" throw - I have another side of the border to quilt, and once I put the binding on, I'll be finished. I bought a kit for a queen quilt - that will be quite a challenge!

  2. I love sewing.

When my daughter graduated I made all her best friends a quilt for graduation. My daughter wanted Scooby Doo flowers and peace signs. I enlarged the flower garden pattern and made my own peace sign by using a dish pan to begin it. I alternated the flower garden blocks with peace symbols...she loved it or said she did. One of these days I shall make another. She lost hers in a house fire.

Is the second a log cabin pattern. The first seems to be a combination of the basket and flying geese.

They are all very beautiful. I would almost give my eye tooth for one of those magical machines.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. What wonderful projects...I love blue and yellow together! You must have patience to sew...I don't sew, but I admire people that do. Enjoy that new machine:)

    1. I am not a very patient person - which could be why the first attempt on the runner didn't work out! But, I do love all of the wonderful fabric designs and colors.

  4. Those fabrics are so lovely. I like that blue with that yellow. The colors and shades in the table cloth work well together too. Bernina is the Cadillac of sewing machines. I used to covet them, but nowadays I'm lucky if I have time to eat, sleep and do other basic things. Maybe some day I will get back into it.

  5. I had my sewing machine out over the winter but didn't have time to sew. I'm still hoping to make curtains for Coral Belle. My camper that sits in the woods. I love the table runner. Very nice.

  6. I would guess that a baby quilt for tummy time could be the next project. Your table looks great!

    1. Thanks! Nope... no baby quilt. They have so many other baby quilts and blankets. However, I may make a quilt for when the baby is older, using fabrics left over from the valence I made for the nursery.
