Friday, Dec 5 finally came. I have been counting down the days. This was my scheduled date to have my cast removed.
Anticipation.....
Then the Doc was behind schedule.
The waiting room was packed with not-so-happy patients.
One hour stretched to two, but I wasn't gonna leave. I was looking forward to this date for two and a half weeks (4 1/2 since the surgery).
The cast came off!
A new form of bondage went on - and still the thumb is not to squeeze anything with any force. I can touch my fingertip for exercises ONLY. The splint may be removed for showers..or during PT/OT.
But, it's all thumb's up from here. I'm making progress. The pain I experience now is far diminished from that I had before, even when resting. It's all good news!
A new terror device but at least it is. Progress!
ReplyDeleteToo true - at least it can come off now and then!
DeleteThat was a long wait but worth it in the end.
ReplyDelete...and miles to go...two more months of healing.
DeleteYay! Comparative freedom!
ReplyDeleteTrue! When I took the brace off tonight I was amazed at how cool the table surface felt. My hand has been wrapped upper 5 weeks, so it was no wonder !
DeleteI had carpal metacarpal arthroscopy. They actually cut out the joint at the base of my thumb, and made a bridge of tendons instead of the joint. I can't believe that I don't have that much pain, considering the bone is gone! While they were messing around there they also did a carpal tunnel release...They had to do carpal tunnel twice?? Ugh!
ReplyDeleteYay! Healing progress! Even though you're in a splint, the freedom must feel wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYikes ~ That operation sounds terrible. At least you are on the mend.
