This evening I stepped outside to find a tiny anole accosting a tiny snake. I'm not certain who was stalking whom, but my presence created a diversion and they both fled, one going north in the ground cover , and the other going south.
They both moved too fast to even think about getting my phone out for a pic.
The hatchling snake (about 14" long and less than a pencil in diameter) looked very much like this little guy. In the waning evening light the stripes took on an aqua hue, perhaps a reflection from the ground cover bordering the walk way. He was very pretty.
Regardless, he's not going to hurt me or my pups. I welcome him to keep other small vermin at bay!
I don't mind having snakes around - preferably the non-venomous kind - but haven't seen any on our property for a few years. I would love to have a few bull snakes to keep the rattlers at bay. We haven't seen a rattlesnake on our property in quite a long time, but we live in an area that they love, so I always keep my eyes open.
ReplyDeleteI love having snakes around, as long as they don't surprise me! I haven't seen any venomous snakes here, but rattle snakes would probably find this area to be lovely. We have gopher tortoises and they share their burrows with all kinds of snakes and vermin. You are wise to keep your eyes open!
DeleteI haven't seen a snake for a long time. Maybe it's the farm chemicals.
ReplyDeleteWe have only seen a few....but I'm sure there are more out there.
