Hay, Pippin & Doc!

Several of you have asked how Pippin and Doc are doing. In case you weren't 'in' on the beginning of this saga, I made the decision (hard decision) to sell my boys. I took them to a fellow who would 'tune' them up and then sell them for me. He sells horses at the Harley Troyer Auctions each year and is highly respected. (I bought the horses at this same Auction, three years ago.) I figure he would have a much better chance of selling them than I would, since everyone knows him and knows he is good for his word.

Although this is not actually a picture of Pippin and Doc, it could be! This is what Pippin and Doc were doing last week. It was time for the trainer to cut and bale hay, so, my boys were put to work pulling the hay rake. The trainer said they were working well as a team and he has been making use of the extra horsepower around his farm!

It still makes me sad, and tears well up in my eyes, but I do believe that this is what the boys were meant to do. They were meant to work and I was just not able to engage them at the level they needed. They are strong little guys with very busy minds. Their minds and their muscles need work.

  1. I know how you feel. It is a hard decision. I made mine for the horses and the children at the youth ranch. Mine are being spoiled rotten, rode and loved every single day.

I still get empty but I'm getting better.

  2. They will be happy boys with a job to do. And they are still together as a team. That's nice.

  3. I can't imagine your sadness at letting them go. Had/has to be one of the hardest decisions you've most likely ever made.

  4. I agree with Camryn. But just knowing that you are doing what is best for them and that they will be together is a happy thought.

  7. I suppose that's why those two were always getting into things around your place...smart minds and boredom? Gosh, they were cute, though...and made for some very entertaining blog fodder.
Does this mean you're done with owning horses altogether, or just not a team of haffies?

  9. Sure hope that the boys find that perfect home. It sure is tough on you to part with them but it's nice to know that the trainer is working them the way they were meant to.

  10. What a difficult decision; however, I think that you did the "right thing"! One of these days you will find that "perfect" horse for you and your stable.

  12. Yep - I missed this. I'm very sorry you had to make this difficult decision, I've also had to do it at times and I know how horrible it is, how painful. However when we know deep inside it's the right thing to do, that helps. We don't have to struggle with our loss, and wondering if we made a mistake. When we know it's the best possible thing, we just have to struggle with the sadness of having to say goodbye. I hope you'll be able to keep in touch, if that is your desire, and also we never know what life will bring us. There is a future ahead for you and the boys - and you just never know. Although I know, it's very sad and my heart goes out to you. I've felt that sadness in my heart too for some of mine. Big hugs from me, and I bet the boys are happy working. I know with a lot of horses and haffies especially, they love working.
