I'm Hooking

In the beginning....

I received this gift from Courtney.

In that post I explained that I had purchased a kit.
A friend loaned me a rug hooking frame.
And...
I finally finished my first 'rug'.

Ta-daa:

Then I tried my hand at hooking my own design.
Here is a Canyon Jay I've been working on.

I've been collecting wool:
both recycled wool from thrift stores
and hand-dyed wools from
rug hooking sources.

Then, I made my own frame.
Yes...
You read that correctly!
The seed for this idea was planted when I bought the kit.
That store sold frames....
for very high prices...
made by the store owner's husband.

I figured if her hubby could make one, so could mine.
Only, my hubby wasn't inclined to do so.
So... I ventured into carpentry!

Now....
 I'm hooking!

    1. I bought another kit from Deanne Fitzpatrick. It's 8 X 24 - cute little lambs. Then I figure I'll make some chair mats. Then... maybe something for the floor.

  7. lol at "my hubby can make one too, but wasn't inclined to do so." Know how that goes! But hey, how cool that you did it yourself! You inspire me! And I love the rugs, both the one you were given and the ones you've made so far! You did an excellent job on the self designing!

  8. OK, when I saw the title of your post, my first thought was that you were doing a different kind of "hooking". :-) Your rug is lovely and you made your own frame??? Good grief, girl, you are not only talented, but you have energy abound. My mother still has a rug I hooked in my teens in her front vestibule. I loved seeing the picture emerge as I worked away while watching TV.
